Display Font – Chunky Valley
Client: My Art | Typography
A fun and friendly display font characterised by bold, rounded letterforms and inspired by styles popular in the 1970s and 1980s - designed to evoke a nostalgic yet contemporary feel.
Chunky Valley is a display font I created that was initially designed to complement the branding of a client’s logo while I was developing some early-stage marketing concepts. I needed an original typeface with bold, imposing characters—playful, but not too playful. The logo I was working with featured a composition of blocks and slits, and I wanted the headlines to visually echo and flow from that structure.
Inspired by retro display fonts such as Cooper Black, Blippo, and Hobo—all favourites from the Adobe Fonts library—I aimed to channel their charm and humour into something more refined and purposeful that would work well as a display font.
With its substantial weight and softened curves, Chunky Valley offers excellent legibility at large sizes, making it ideal for headlines, titles, and branding. It’s particularly well suited for projects where a small amount of text needs to deliver maximum impact—posters, packaging, and advertising, to name a few.
